A Correlated Cyto-Histological Approach to Early Diagnosis of Cervical Atypia and Cancer

Abstract
An analysis of cytologic diagnosis in 57 cases compared to histopathologic diagnosis is. made from January to December, 1978, and following results are obtained.
1. The cervical lesion of 57 cases, both cyto-pathologic examination were done, consisted, of 4 cases of chronic cervicitis, 21 cases of dysplasias, 8 cases of carcinoma in situ, 4 cases of microinvasive carcinoma, 17 cases of invasive carcinoma and 3 cases of adenocarcinoma.
2. The 17 cases of invasive carcinoma consisted of., 10 cases of keratinizing type, 5 cases of non-keratinizing large cell type and 2 cases of non-keratinizing small cell type.
3. The ratio of positive correlation between cytologic and histologic diagnois was 50% in dysplasias, carcinoma in situ and microinvasive carcinoma, 100%, 66.7%, and 100% in keratinizing type, non-keratinizing large cell and small cell types of invasive carcinoma and 100% in adenocarcinoma.
In conclusion based on above findings, although it tends to underdiagnose in dysplasia, a high degree of accuracy in diagnosing the invasive carcinoma. It is also possible differentiate the subtypes of invasive carcinoma.
